I spent my childhood in a small village just a stone’s throw from the beautiful and historic city of Bath in England. I spent most of my free time outdoors with my brothers building castles and making dams in the abandoned orchard that backed onto our garden.
I attended the local Primary School and was fortunate to be taught by Dick King-Smith during the short time he worked as a teacher, before he became one of Britain's most prolific children’s authors. It was during this time that, according to my father, I set my goal on becoming a teacher just as inspiring as he had been for me.
After graduating from university with an honours degree, specialising in Early Years Education, I returned to the West Country to take up a teaching position in a small Infant School in Bristol. I taught there for 8 years, taking a year’s sabbatical to participate in a Commonwealth Teacher’s Exchange Program in Canada. It was a wonderful, life-changing experience and inspired me to take the plunge and continue my teaching career on the international circuit.
I joined the British School in Washington DC in the summer of 2000. During my very enjoyable 14 years at the school I taught across both Key Stages 1 and 2 and I relished the new challenge in 2012 of working as part of the EYFS team, teaching my first ever Reception class. Teaching children in the EYFS turned out to be one of the most challenging, yet rewarding career decisions I have ever made. I am passionate about it and feel it is a great privilege.
For the past 4 years I have continued to follow my passion and have been teaching in the EYFS, working primarily with bilingual learners in Dubai and Saudi Arabia.
I wish to create a stimulating and safe environment for your child that encourages them to seek challenges and become inquisitive, resilient life-long learners.
